Job Description

Relate Search has partnered with a leading metals processing and distribution group to identify an experienced Director of Quality. This executive-level role will lead quality operations across multiple sites, driving a culture of operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

The Director of Quality will oversee the company’s Quality Management System, manage quality control and assurance processes, and build technical strength within the quality team. The ideal candidate is a leader that is collaborative with expertise in metals manufacturing and has a strong knowledge of ISO standards, regulatory compliance, and team development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and continuously improve the company’s QMS in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 and other applicable industry standards.
  • Oversee all QA/QC functions including inspection, testing, audits, and quality documentation.
  • Establish, monitor, and report on quality KPIs; lead corrective/preventive action processes to address performance gaps.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and data-driven problem-solving methodologies.
  • Manage and resolve customer complaints and ensure structured CAPA processes are in place.
  • Partner cross-functionally with operations, commercial, and supply chain teams to improve consistency and reduce variation.
  • Lead supplier audits, monitor vendor quality performance, and ensure compliance with material specifications.
  • Develop and mentor a team of quality professionals, fostering technical capability and accountability.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customer and third-party audits.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, and operational excellence across all sites.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or related technical field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive quality leadership experience in steel, heavy manufacturing, or metals processing.
  • In-depth knowledge of ISO 9001:2015, ASTM, AWS, and ASME standards.
  • Demonstrated expertise in regulatory compliance, including ITAR, EAR, and Joint Certification Program (JCP) requirements for handling controlled technical data.
  • Certification or demonstrated application of Lean, Six Sigma methodologies; or similar CI methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing quality teams.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Experience with ERP systems and quality management software.
